Breast Reduction in Turkey

Breast Reduction in Turkey

Reduction Mammoplasty

Changing the size of one’s breasts is a very difficult and personal decision.

Many times, this decision comes after years of pain or from suffering low self-esteem.

Also, some women are naturally born with one breast that’s larger than the other, but in the case of those with significant changes, having a reduction mammoplasty will help to solve the problem for good.

Reduction mammoplasty, or breast reduction, is a good cosmetic surgical procedure for a woman experiencing health problems and/or extreme self-consciousness associated with very large, heavy breasts.

The goal is to give the woman a more attractive look with smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body. She will then benefit from freedom of health problems associated with large breasts and an improved self-image.

7 Reasons to Consider a Breast Reduction

Sometimes after childbirth or even with age, a woman’s breast may start to change the way that it looks in appearance. This could affect the size of the breast and the way that it looks.

There are a lot of medical and psychological problems associated with very large breasts. Here are 7 reasons to consider a reduction mammoplasty:

  • Back and neck pain caused from excessive weight.
  • Bra straps may leave shoulder indentations.
  • Skin irritation.
  • Skeletal deformities.
  • Breathing problems.
  • Large, heavy breasts also contribute to poor posture, and can interfere with normal daily activities such as exercise.
  • Excessive breast size may also lead to a decreased sense of attractiveness and self-confidence.

Having breast reduction or reconstructive surgery will help to restore the look that the breast once had so that women of any size can feel sexy and secure again.

Breast Reduction Techniques in Turkey

When performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, breast reduction is a safe procedure. There are five techniques for reduction mammoplasty, three of them are effective and used in Turkey:

  • Inverted-T breast reduction.
  • Vertical (Lollipop) breast reduction.
  • Donut or Benelli breast reduction.
  • Horizontal (No Vertical Scar) breast reduction.
  • Liposuction (Virtually Scarless) breast reduction.

Each technique has its pros and cons, but the one that will be used in reduction procedure depends on the patient’s physical characteristics, breast size and the extent of drooping, amount of tissue that should be removed, patient’s goals and attitude toward scars, then the surgeon’s experience and what he will decide.

Those who have had children or who have gotten older might opt for a breast lift with reduction at same time which helps to pull the breast into a higher and more youthful position. In this case the surgeon may combine reduction mammoplasty with a liposuction, lift operation or even breast implants.

Reduction Mammoplasty Steps and Recovery

Most forms of breast reductions are done for a medical reason.

Another form of breast reduction for women who want to lessen their bra size is reconstructive surgery.

This procedure decreases the size of the breasts by removing excess tissue, fat and skin. It will make them smaller, lighter, and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple.

The steps of the procedure are as the following:

  • Anesthesia: Breast reduction is done under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis or in the hospital.
  • Incision Placement: Breast reduction usually will be done using one of the three incision techniques: the anchor incision, the vertical incision, or the liposuction / scarless incision. The anchor incision is made around the areola circumference, vertically down the breast, and then horizontally along the breast crease.

The vertical incision will be placed around the lower-half of the areola, going vertically down the breast to reduce the scarring. While the scarless incision will involve tiny incisions made at the breast crease or under the armpit to remove the excess fat tissue via liposuction.

    * The choice of the incision will be determined by the extent of the breast reduction.
  • Fat and excess skin reduction: The next step and through the incisions, excess fat, skin and glandular tissue will be removed from the lower portion of the breast.

    * Sometimes a liposuction technique will be enough to reduce the breast size (if the patient only has fatty tissue.) That means less breast tissue trauma, minimal scarring, quick recovery and greatly reduce the chances of complications.
  • Nipple Repositioning: Reshaping the breast by repositioning the nipples to a higher level. The surgeon may remove the nipple from the breast, then grafting it again in the exact required place.

    * This step is primarily used for women with huge, sagging breasts.
  • Closing the Incision: Finally, the surgeon will close the incisions with dissolvable sutures.

After the surgery, the breasts are placed in a surgical bra that will hold them symmetrically during initial healing.

How Long Does Breast Reduction Surgery Take?

The whole operation takes 3 to 4 hours.

How Long Does It Take to Recover from Breast Reduction?

Short-term recovery: About 3 weeks.
Long-term recovery: From 3 to 6 months. Sometimes it can be longer.

What About Breast Reduction Scars?

Scars will fade in 6-18 months.

Keep in mind: Although your surgeon will make your scars as inconspicuous as possible, but only in few cases, some permanent scarring is inevitable.

Smokers are more likely to experience poor healing and wider scars.

The good news is, your bra or bathing suit will cover whatever scars remain, and most likely, the scars will not prevent you from wearing low-cut tops. After recovery, life will go on as before.

Breast Reduction Risks

As with any surgery, there is always a possibility of risks and complications. Discuss this with a doctor before making your decision.

If you do have this surgery, you can reduce your risks of side effects by closely following your physician’s advice both before and after surgery.

In Turkey and by using the new techniques, the risks of breast reduction are very rare. Anyway, here are some possible risks:

  • Anesthesia risks.
  • Allergy to tape, sutures, and surgical materials.
  • Bleeding or blood clots.
  • Loss of sensation in nipple or breast.
  • Skin loss in the nipple and areola areas.
  • Breast reduction scars.
  • Infection.
  • Pain. The initial discomfort subsides daily and can be controlled with painkillers.
